IVF Statistics
Over the last few years, there were approximately 300,000 babies born in Australia each year*. IVF statistics reveal that approximately 3.3%^ of babies born in Australia were conceived as a result of assisted reproductive technology (ART) - that’s around 10,000 babies each year. The most widely used ART is in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Queensland Fertility Group (QFG) and our sister clinics in Melbourne (Melbourne IVF) and Sydney (IVF Australia) are proud to report that we collectively brought more than 2,000 IVF babies into the world in 2010, accounting for approximately 20% of all babies born in Australia using ART. Our leading success rates to are world-recognised with our doctors and scientists esteemed internationally. But what is most important is that our patients receive the highest standard of personal care and attention and as a result QFG is acclaimed as having some of the best IVF clinics in Australia.
Thanks to significant advances in assisted reproduction technologies (ART) over the past 15 years, your chance of conceiving through ART has far overtaken that of natural conception. While Queensland Fertility Group’s aim is to maximise your natural fertility, the likelihood of you conceiving naturally must be considered. This is of particular importance when the age of the woman is over 35 years, as infertility in women rapidly declines after this age.
Here are some general statistics for different infertility treatments conducted on women aged under 35 years of age:
Natural conception: 1- 2% chance of conception each month
Ovulation Induction: 3-7% chance of conception within a 2 week timeframe
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): 8 – 15% chance of conception per cycle within a 2 week timeframe
In vitro fertilization (IVF): up to 50% chance of conception per cycle in a 3-6 week timeframe.
When deciding which fertility treatment is best for you, it’s important to compare the success rates against the cost of infertility treatment. All costs will be clearly outlined by your QFG Fertility Specialist prior to commencing any treatment. It is important to note, however, that IVF statistics and success rates cannot be regarded in isolation as there are a number of factors that will affect your own personal level of success. Your Fertility Specialist will take the following factors into account before recommending the most suitable treatment option for you:
- both partners’ age
- how long you have been trying to conceive
- Weight and lifestyle of both partners (smoking, drinking, drugs, exercise)
- Genetic or hereditary factors
- Any previous pregnancies or miscarriages
- Quality and quantity of eggs
- Quality and quantity of sperm
At Queensland Fertility Group, our success rates for all infertility treatments have continued to rise. For your best chance of conception and experience you can trust, make an appointment with your nearest QFG fertility clinic today.
