This program involves 6 easy to follow steps – and the first 4 you can do yourself, for free!
Starting your journey to parenthood can be exciting, but also challenging if you're not getting pregnant as quickly as you expected. Developed by leading fertility specialists, our 6 step Fertility Insights Program is full of informative and practical free pregnancy advice that any woman trying to conceive should follow.
The first 4 steps are so simple, and free! Get started on the program today and be on your way to pregnancy...
Step 1: KNOW when you're ovulating
It may seem simple, but the average fertile couple has just a 20% chance of conceiving in any given month of having unprotected sex.
Every woman is different, and your menstrual cycle may also vary month to month. With this ovulation calculator you can understand your individual pregnancy or ‘fertile’ window, and to ensure you have sex when you are most likely to conceive – generally one or two days before ovulation. Regular intercourse, two to three times a week, will also boost your chances further. What are my options if I have irregular or infrequent periods?
Use our Ovulation Calculator below to identify your fertility window:
Step 2: IMPROVE your health and lifestyle
Healthy parents and healthy babies go hand in hand. Improving your general health can increase your likelihood of conceiving naturally.
You and your partner should:
- eat a healthy diet
- maintain a healthy weight
- stop smoking and any recreational drug use
- only drink alcohol in moderation
- exercise regularly
Women should also:
- take 500ug of folic acid each day
- take multi-vitamins for general health
- visit the GP for antenatal blood tests, including checks for rubella and chicken pox status, blood group, Rh factor, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C
- review current medications and any implications for pregnancy with a GP
- understand your menstrual cycle
Many people try complementary therapies to support their general physical and emotional health. If you would like to try alternative therapies at the same time as seeking fertility support, we suggest looking into acupuncture and vitamin supplements.
Could a common gynaecological condition such as Endometriosis, PCOS or an Ovulation Disorder, be preventing you from falling pregnant? Use our self-assessment tool below to check your symptoms.

Step 3: CALL our free, confidential fertility enquiry line
There is no harm in asking questions of someone you can trust! Our friendly nurses are here to give free and confidential advice. They work hand-in-hand with our Fertility Specialists and have helped hundreds of couples on their path to parenthood, and may be able to offer some simple advice that you have overlooked.
To speak with a nurse, call 1800 111 483 and they will be happy to answer all your questions. Alternatively, you can also email our nurses with your inquiry.
Step 4: TALK one-on-one with a Specialist at a free seminar
Our Fertility Specialists hold FREE public seminars where you can meet our team of experts face-to-face. These seminars explain factors that can affect fertility, and give you information on the various treatment options available to you. After the presentation you’ll also have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with our team and have your questions answered in a relaxed, no-obligation environment.
Visit our Free Fertility Seminars page to find out more and reserve your place.
Step 5: BOOK a $150 couples consultation*
If you have completed steps 1-4 and find you are still having trouble falling pregnant, we recommend you have a consultation with a Queensland Fertility Group Fertility Specialist - particularly if you are over 35 and have been trying for 6 months or more, or are under 35 and have been trying for 12 months or more.
*The approximate out-of-pocket cost for this appointment is between $100 and $150. This is the cost for both you and your partner after Medicare rebates have been claimed. It is important that you obtain a referral from your GP before your appointment, that way you will be eligible for Medicare rebates. Your referral can be made out to a specific Specialist, or to Queensland Fertility Group.
Many of the basic diagnostic tests your Specialist may recommend are bulk billed. Other tests will incur additional costs – the tests ordered will depend on your medical history, and any additional costs will be explained to you.
Some common tests recommended by our Fertility Specialists prior to developing a personalised treatment plan include:
- semen analysis
- reproductive hormone levels
- rubella (German measles) immunity
- chicken pox immunity
- syphilis serology
- thyroid function testing
- current pap smear and breast check (within last two years)
- hepatitis B, C, HIV
Step 6: CONTROL your own path to pregnancy
In your follow-up appointment your specialist will explain the results of your fertility investigations and discuss the treatment options available to you in order to improve your chance of conception. Conception is a sequence of events, and your results and options will be explained as they relate to:
- sperm quality
- egg and sperm union
Based on your individual circumstances, together you will decide on a path to pregnancy that’s right for you. For many couples, non or minimally invasive, lower cost procedures such as timed conception and Ovulation Induction are a first line treatment to increase fertility, whereas in other instances lifestyle changes may be recommended.
If you want to make this year the year you fall pregnant, you can take control through proper planning and preparation. Follow our simple 6 step Fertility Insights Program to improve your chances considerably.
