About Us

As a member of Virtus Health, Queensland Fertility Group has more experienced fertility specialists, offering many treatment options, in more locations, to create more babies than any other fertility group.

With QFG clinics throughout Queensland, you will have access to the best minds in fertility treatment, as well as the latest scientific advances in assisted reproductive technology, at a location that is convenient to you. We can take care of you at every step of the journey, from testing and diagnosis to treatment, and continuing support after you have created your family.

Queensland Fertility Group's role in IVF history

Queensland Fertility Group was founded in 1983 by a group of Brisbane-based obstetricians and gynaecologists who pioneered IVF in Queensland.

Our Fertility Specialists were responsible for the birth of Queensland’s first IVF baby in 1984, as well as the state’s first baby conceived using a frozen embryo in 1986.

In 2010, Charley was born – the first Australian baby born to a mother who was herself conceived through IVF. Charley was conceived and delivered naturally, indicating fertility problems are not always hereditary. Both Charley and his mother were delivered by QFG Obstetrician Dr Doug Keeping, 26 years apart.

Also in 2010, Sophie became the 500th baby conceived through IVF in Cairns. We have pioneered the expansion of fertility services into Queensland’s regional areas – without which many couples in Far North Queensland simply wouldn’t have the chance to start their family unless they were prepared to travel frequently to Brisbane.

What makes QFG unique?

Queensland Fertility Group’s Fertility Specialists are all highly trained obstetricians and gynaecologists who specialise in fertility, and include many of Queensland’s IVF pioneers.

We provide a full range of fertility services, from simple, minimally invasive treatments such as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and Ovulation Induction (OI), to more advanced treatments such as In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing (PGT).

Based on thorough fertility investigations, your specialist develops a personalised treatment plan, and performs all your procedures, including ultrasound scans, egg collection and embryo transfers. Several of our Specialists also offer obstetric services, so they can care for you throughout your pregnancy.

Our Fertility Specialists are supported by a team of experienced fertility nurses, who are on-hand to guide you through the treatment process and answer any questions you have along the way.

Specialist Day Hospitals

Queensland Fertility Group patients may have egg collection, embryo transfer and other procedures performed at the Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital in Brisbane, or at the Mackay Specialist Day Hospital. In other regions, we have close working ties with local private day hospitals.

Advanced science and in-house diagnostics

All of our procedures, including sperm preparation, ICSI, Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) and freezing of sperm, eggs and embryos, take place in our dedicated on-site laboratories. We are the only IVF provider in Queensland to have our own in-house genetics and pathology laboratories including andrology (semen analysis).

Dedicated donor programme

We have been helping single women, same-sex couples and hetero couples to access donor sperm, eggs and embryos through our extensive donor programme for over 30 years. Our dedicated team of donor coordinators, counsellors and nurses will support you throughout the process, from choosing a donor to navigating legal requirements.
