Fertility Assessment and Ovulation Tracking

If you have been trying to conceive naturally for a while with no success, a good first step is a fertility assessment from an experienced Fertility Specialist and nurse-managed ovulation tracking from Queensland Fertility Group.

Your Fertility Assessment (for both you and your partner) will help identify any possible reasons contributing to delay, as well as highlight ways to improve your chances of falling pregnant

With clinics across QLD in Brisbane, Gold Coast and more, we are dedicated to helping you conceive in the most natural way possible. Ovulation tracking is a simple process that can help you identify which days you’re most fertile; making it easier to plan when to have sex to give you the best chance of conception.

It doesn’t require any invasive treatments and is much more accurate than home ovulation predication kits. Not only that, our experienced fertility nurses will offer you pregnancy advice and tips as you go through the process.

Why is the timing of sex so important?

If you’re trying to fall pregnant, the timing of when you and your partner have sex is an important factor, and one that many couples get wrong. The most fertile time in your menstrual cycle – your ‘fertile window’ – are the days leading up to ovulation, before the egg is released from the ovary.

If you are trying to have sex at exactly the time of ovulation you will probably miss your fertile window and the opportunity for conception that month. After ovulation, the egg survives for just 24 hours, while sperm retain fertilising capability for two to three days in the fallopian tubes. Rather than trying to pinpoint the exact time of ovulation, it is recommended couples try to have regular sex (about every two days) in the week of ovulation – between days 11-17 of the woman’s cycle. This means that sperm are ready and waiting for the egg when the female ovulates.

How does ovulation tracking work?

Whether you have regular or irregular periods, if you’ve been trying to fall pregnant for a few months without success, we can confidently help you to identify your fertile window. We do this by tracking your blood hormone levels to predict when ovulation is going to take place.

Ovulation is triggered by a surge of hormones from the pituitary gland (Luteinising Hormone). This normally takes place 24 hours before ovulation. We are able to carry out simple blood and ultrasound tests which detect this hormone surge, allowing us to advise you of the ideal time to have sex to achieve conception.

The first step is to book an appointment with one of our leading fertility specialists, who will get to know your individual circumstances and determine if cycle tracking is right for you.

Clinic ovulation tracking versus home ovulation kits

By undertaking a combination of blood tests and ultrasounds you’ll receive a more accurate and comprehensive overview of your cycle and general fertility.

Unlike most home ovulation tests that just measure the level of luteinising hormone (LH) we also measure the quantity of estrogen and progesterone present throughout your cycle enabling us to identify the period of time before you ovulate. We also perform ultrasounds to confirm that there are actually follicles developing in the ovaries.

Our fertility nurses will help you understand your results and you’ll also have a consultation with a Fertility Specialist for expert advice and to identify any underlying problems.

How much will my fertility assessment and ovulation tracking cost?

There is no out-of-pocket cost for ovulation cycle tracking program at QFG. This service is bulk billed for all Medicare card holders. The out-of-pocket costs from your consultation with a Fertility Specialist may vary; and the blood tests for investigations may also vary depending on required tests.

However, to be eligible for Medicare rebates you’ll need to obtain a referral from a GP, as well as have a valid Medicare card.

Sounds easy! What do I do now?
